Open Letter for Climate and Social Justice

Uniting Across Borders for Urgent Climate and Life-on-Earth Action

We, the undersigned, call upon governments, legislators, industries, media, financial institutions, investors, lobbyists, millionaires and billionaires:

to recognise the existential escalating crises of climate change, pollution, and nature loss as the defining emergencies of our time. The current pace of governmental response is insufficient and we cannot afford to wait for delayed regulations or gradual policy shifts, while our only home is at risk.

Purpose

In response to our hour of need, grassroots movements from across Europe have joined forces to create an international network. Our aim is to drive immediate, decisive action. This network will amplify our collective voice and support, ensuring that those in power take responsibility and act now, not tomorrow.

Our Shared Vision

  • A just transition to fossil-free societies, rooted in sufficiency and reparations.
  • A financial system that respects nature, upholds ecological and social justice, and serves people above profit.
  • Full respect for free, prior, and informed consent and the right to self-determination for all peoples.

Funding and Support: A Necessity, Not a Luxury

The success of grassroots activism depends on resources. As funding shrinks and costs rise, grassroots face increasing challenges. Sustainable action requires financial support for fair compensation for organisers and campaigners, communication, legal and health support. Without this, the movement’s reach and impact are limited at a time when expansion is most critical. Make a donation to the Grassroots Network for Climate Justice (GNCJ) here.

Our Network: United Across Borders

This international network brings together movements from five countries:

  • France: Terre de Luttes, Action Justice Climat—fighting climate-destructive projects and supporting regenerative agriculture.
  • Netherlands: Fossielvrij, Geef Tegengas—challenging fossil industries and building movements for a just transition.
  • Spain: Ecologistas En Acción, ODG—leading campaigns for social ecology, financial justice, and defending the commons.
  • Switzerland: BreakFree Switzerland, Collective Climate Justice—targeting fossil finance and advancing intersectional climate justice.
  • United Kingdom: Zero Hour, Tipping Point—pushing for legislative change and mobilising communities for bold climate action.

Call to Action

Together, these movements represent thousands of activists and communities on the front lines of climate and nature action.

We urge all policymakers, funders, and citizens to support the Grassroots Network for Climate Justice (GNCJ) and its sustained funding.

By signing this open letter, we demand immediate action to protect our climate and nature, empower grassroots movements, and create a just and sustainable future for all.
